3 Easy Eye Exercises You Can Do At Home!
The same way you can improve your physical health by increasing your strength or conditioning, your visual skills can also benefit from exercising a variety of techniques.
However, due to the current COVID landscape, many of us find ourselves still following stay-at-home orders and practicing social distancing. As a result, many of us have had to get creative with how we work out or stay active, i.e. the recent emergence of diy work-out equipment.
With that in mind, we wanted to share with you some easy ways or simple techniques you can do at home to exercise your eyes:
- Reduce digital eye strain: admittedly, sometimes we can spend too much time staring at a screen. According to the American Optometric Association (AOA) it's recommended that we take frequent breaks from looking at our screen and follow the 20-20-20 rule; which involves looking 20 feet away every 20 minutes for 20 seconds at a time.
- Focus change: this is a quick exercise we picked up from Healthline, it's quick, easy, and can help with the aforementioned digital eye strain. This exercise is recommended to be done while seated.
- Hold your index finger a few inches away from one eye.
- Focus your eyes on the finger.
- Slowly move your finger away from the face
- Focus on an object farther away or behind your finger, and then back on the finger.
- Maintaining the focus, bring the finger back closer to the eye.
- Focus on an object farther away.
- Repeat for a total of THREE (3) times

- Focus on an area on the floor around 8 to 10 feet away.
- Move your eyes tracing the shape of a figure 8.
- Continue tracing the imaginary figure 8 for 30 seconds, then switch direction.
While there is limited evidence to show that these eye exercises can improve your vision, they can help with eye comfort and promote better eye health.
